Erin Andrews Hotel Video Maker Arrested

The FBI has arrested Michael David Barrett, 48, as the man who made the hotel video of ESPN reporter, Erin Andrews, while she undressed in hotel rooms.

According to reports, Barrett not only posted the videos online, but was looking to sell them to the highest bidder. The arrest came as a result of Barrett offering the videos for sale to TMZ. TMZ refused the offer and contacted Andrews' attorney leading to Barrett's arrest at Chicago's O'Hare Airport Friday night, the Associated Press reports .

The FBI reports that Barrett had a total of eight videos and posted seven of them online.

Barrett has made an initial appearance in a Chicago court Saturday and was ordered to be returned to Los Angeles, where charges against him were filed. Another hearing will be held on Monday to determine if Barrett will be freed on bond or will remain in custody.

After Barrett's arrest, Andrews said she will "make every effort to strengthen the laws on a state and federal level to better protect victims of criminal stalking." She added that she (Erin Andrews) plans to file a civil lawsuit against Barrett and those who published the videos.

The Erin andrews hotel videos were reportedly posted in February on the Web site Dailymotion, but weren't noticed until July. Original reports had ESPN doing a full-scale internal investigation as it was believed that an ESPN employee was responsible for the videos.

Now investigators believe that Barrett found out what hotels Andrews was staying at ahead of time and requested rooms next to her. He reportedly stayed in the room next to Andrews while she was in Nashville in 2008. That's where he allegedly rigged the keyhole in erins hotel room and shot the hotel video.

The FBI as well as others are baffled as to how Barrett got the information on the hotels Erin Andrews was staying at and why hotel employees would give out her room number to him.

TMZ has reviewed six videos shot by the Peeping Tom who secretly videotaped Erin Andrews hotel video as the ESPN reporter walked around naked, not having a clue she was being watched ... and there are signs the person who taped it may be connected with the coverage of athletic events. Four of the clips were shot in the same hotel. The remaining two were shot in a different hotel. In the first hotel, the peephole is round. In the second hotel, the peephole is jagged. The furniture in the two hotel rooms is completely different. In the first set of videos, Erin is naked, curling her hair while looking into a mirror. It appears all four clips are from the same video. In the second set of clips, Erin is also naked, ironing a pair of pants. The videos raise the suspicion that the person who shot them may have been familiar with her work schedule and may have been traveling with her. Erin's people are on the hunt for the culprit.

On October 2, 2009, the FBI announced the arrest of a Chicago, IL, area suspect. Michael David Barrett, 48, faces federal charges of interstate stalking for taking the videos, posting the videos online and trying to sell them to celebrity Web site TMZ.com. According to investigators seven of the eight videos posted online were taken through a modified door peephole while Andrews was alone and undressed in hotel rooms in Nashville, Tenn., in September 2008. Investigators believe the eighth video was taken in a hotel in Milwaukee in July 2008. According to the FBI complaint, Barrett tried to sell the videos to TMZ.com via an email, but an employee there told Andrews' attorneys. FBI agents matched information in the e-mail to Barrett.
